Networks that support the way we learn

Advances in network technologies are perhaps the most significant agents of change in today's world. Thanks to these advances, we can create a world in which national borders, geographical distances and physical limitations become less important and become increasingly easy obstacles to overcome.

The Internet changed the way in which social, commercial, political, and personal interactions occur. The immediate nature of Internet communications encourages the formation of global communities. These communities allow social interaction that does not depend on location or time zone. Creating online communities for the exchange of ideas and information has the potential to increase productivity opportunities across the planet.

Networks changed the way we learn. Access to high-quality teaching is no longer restricted to students who live in the immediate vicinity of where such teaching takes place.

Online distance learning removed geographic barriers and improved student opportunities. Reliable and strong networks support and enrich student learning experiences. Through the networks, educational material is offered in a wide variety of formats, including activities, assessments, and feedback.

The globalization of the Internet leads to new forms of communication that give people the ability to create information that can be accessed by a global audience.
